Sara’s Henna @ RAW Festive Affair!

28 11 2009

What a day!! Started off with a few hrs of setting up at RAW and soon the fair got going and we got the first stream of people through the doors! It was one of those beautiful hot sunny days and it felt good to have the sun shining through the windows even though we were indoors! There were some beautiful jewellery stalls, along with other handmade accessories.

For this fair I decided to add a new element to Sara’s Henna stall and designed some raw wooden jewelry boxes with intricate henna designs on them. Each box is a one-off with an individual design drawn freehand on the it. People could also get these boxes personalized by getting their names engraved on them to make very unique christmas presents!

You can see some photos of these below, and more will be up later. If you are interested in buying any of these please feel free to contact me!

Smiles and Success at Sara’s Henna Stall in SOHO!

8 11 2009

This has been the most exciting weekend I have ever spent in Hong Kong in my 12 years here!! The festival came to a fantastic end today with me being serenaded by a group of vocalists from the Macao Venetian!! They inspired me with their singing while I tattooed them thus attracting a LOT of attention to the henna stall – which was amazing!! Keep an eye out for the video which will be posted up very soon! There were a lot of very unique and creative individuals in the crowd today as well, from people who made us research into startrek to create a tattoo, to a girl who wanted leopard print on her skin! I loved these tattooes as they were something out of the ordinary, and after hours of drawing the same designs over and over again (as people kept picking the most popular designs) it was a refreshing change to see people with a mind of their own!

Anyways, as they says “Pictures speak a thousand words” so, in this post I will let the photos do all the talking! Just let me say – Well done to the Organizers for pulling off this amazing festival!!

First Day Success at HMHK Festival in SOHO!!

7 11 2009

The first day of the festival – village on the hill comes to a veryyy tiring end!! But it was a fantastic success, with amazing crowds, even better crowd management and traffic control, as well as amazing vendors selling the most beautiful handicrafts!! Just too bad that I didn’t get a chance to shop today as was too busy with the henna but hopefully will def shop some tomorrow! The henna stall went really well thankfully, even though it was my first time participating in such a huge festival in Hong Kong! Hopefully tomorrow will be even better and the next few fairs that I intend to take part in will only get better *fingers crossed* as I learnt many things today and realised a huge variety of things that I can improve on and prepare for in the next few fairs!

However, this is going to be short as I’m extremely tired and have got another long day of tattooing tomorrow!! SO – if you havn’t yet attended the Festival DO SO TOMORROW!!! To make this even more exciting – anyone who mentions this post on my blog to me tomorrow will get $5 OFF their HENNA TATTOO! Check out my stall – Sara’s Henna at Elgin Street in front of Olive Greek Restaurant!! Below is a sneak preview of today’s stall, and check out this space for all the pictures from the full weekend tomorrow night!!

Bridal Henna in Guang Zhou

5 11 2009

Yesterday was a very interesting and a very exciting day for me! It was the first time I went to China all on my own, and I have to admit I didn’t know what to expect! But I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was (everything but the train station) where I had a real live encounter with the rescue squad from monsters inc. I went to Guang Zhou to do henna for a beautiful bride called Radha, and for her Sangeet party! It was a lot of fun, even though it was extremely tiring! The henna took longer than expected and I started at 1, then finished at 6, with lunch/tea breaks in between, as well as with her getting her makeup and hair done at the same time it was all a bit hectic! But all in all the henna turned out nicely (thankfully) and I hope her color has gone darker by now! In the evening I did henna for about 25 of her wedding guests in the 2 hours I was able to stay there. You can see all the photos by clicking on the photos below!

1 11 2009

Sundays come and go So fast!!! Don’t even realize where the week flies and before I know it, it’s Sunday again! This was the 2nd Art Sunday that I have attended and worked at now, and today I was based at Sofia Gaspar Contemporary Spanish Gallery. I got the chance to meet the owner Sofia, and her lovely daughter as well as some other very interesting people who came to view the gallery. I am still waiting to get all the photos from Sofia, however you can see a few of the photos below! I will add more later once I receive them. Overall it was another very interesting and exciting Sunday! We even had a surprise visit from ATV who are interested in doing a feature on the arts scene in Hong Kong! So keep checking this space to see when the feature will be aired!

Afterglow Smile Party – Fundraiser for OP SMILE

31 10 2009

Last night I did henna tattoos at one of the biggest events I have ever worked at! The event was called Afterglow Smile Party, and it was a fundraiser for the worldwide charity called Operation Smile – a worldwide children’s medical charity that helps improve the health and lives of children and young adults born with facial deformities. There were about 700 people who attended, and it was definitely an eye opening experience for me! I never realized just how many affluent people there were in Hong Kong!!  The party was definitely a success, with a huge sum of money raised for the Operation Smile charity so it was for an amazing cause! There were music stars from around the world, such as Meow Meow, Carmit Bachar (former pussycat doll as well as an ambassador of “Operation Smile”) and Detroit Diamond to name a few as well as a Live and a Silent auction which contributed tremendously towards the making the fundraiser a huge success! Below are a few photos from the night, and you can click on the pics to see all the photos of my henna and the party!

Kanchan Couture Turns 2

23 10 2009

I recently went to help out backstage at Kanchan Couture’s 2 year birthday with a visual re-branding by uforepublic held at Play. The clothes were absolutely amazing and they took your breath away from the stunning bright and rich colours used along with the extravagant hats from Sashey completing the look. Definitely a successful event – a fact that was re-affirmed by the endless flashes from the press and the full capacity of the venue, with people spilling outside Play to watch the show from the outside as well!
