Kung Hei Fat Choy – A very Happy Chinese New Year!

22 01 2012

The dragon is considered the highest-ranking animal in the Chinese animal hierarchy, strongly associated with power and majesty. It is the only mythological animal of the 12 animals that represent the Chinese calendar. 2012 is the Chinese year of the Dragon and is expected to be bringing good fortune and luck for all with it!

To welcome this new year, from the 22nd Jan to 29th Jan, Sara’s Henna will be offering free henna tattoos to all those lucky people born in the Years of the Dragon:
1904 * 1916 * 1928 * 1940 * 1952 * 1964 * 1976 * 1988 * 2000

A Henna tattoo tribute to Steve Jobs!

18 11 2011

A few days ago I was approached by a client asking if I could do portraits in henna. I had only tried this twice before so I was extremely nervous. However, I was very touched by his motive behind this portrait. He’s taking part in the Oxfam Trailwalker, and wanted a portrait of his father on one forearm, and another tattoo of the Steve Jobs tribute apple design on the other arm. I thought I would share this henna tattoo tribute to Steve Jobs with you! What do you think?:)

HKD11,340 raised from the ‘Positively Pink’ Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign!

7 11 2011

It’s amazing how after weeks of hard work, time and effort organizing an event, the actual event goes by within a blink of an eye! I had a great time organizing this fundraiser with Sweet Soirees, and was happy that all our hard work paid off as the event went really smoothly without any hiccups! Although the turnout could have been better with more promotion time, the people who did attend the event went away happy with good memories, souvenirs and christmas presents bought at our Auction! A big thank you to all our guests and our lovely sponsors!! Without your support and help we would have never raised the hefty sum of HKD 11,340! This money has been donated to the HK Cancer Fund (who were our beneficiary) and this money will go towards providing free cancer care services for patients who can’t afford the care in HK otherwise! Please take a look at some of the photos below, and all the photos from the event can be found here! You can also take a look at all the HK Photobox prints here!

Henna-ed Sailors @ the 24Hr International Aquathon!

3 10 2011

The 9th running of the International 24 HR Charity Dinghy Race 2011 was held this weekend at the Hebe Haven Yatch Club in Hong Kong, and once again, Sara’s Henna team was found camping out in the fair grounds!:) It was truly a memorable and fulfilling weekend, doing henna tattoos, meeting familiar clients & customers from last year, camping out at night by the pier and all along knowing that our main aim is to raise money for charity! The International 24 Hr event supports: Children’s Cancer Foundation, Enlighten- action for epilepsy, Ideal and Treats.

Despite the gloomy weather, we – J(my henna partner in crime) and I managed to tattoo over 160 young sailors and had an amazing weekend soaking in the buzzing atmosphere! By the end of the 24hr Aquathon, almost every kid could be seen walking around with a henna tattoo! Check out the photos from the event below, and see if you can spot yourself!

Photos courtesy of my 2 wonderful friends – Jeff Chan and Long Guan – Thanks guys!:D The individual photos can also be found on our Facebook page!

Bridal Henna in Penang!

6 08 2011

Over the last two years of doing henna, I’ve realized that no matter where an Indian bride lives or holds her wedding, at the end of the day her wedding will always be traditional and full of the colorful musical traditions that Indian culture is famous for. One such example was my friend’s wedding in Malaysia a few months back. With the beautiful North channel as the backdrop for her wedding mandap (a covered structure with pillars temporarily erected for the purpose of a Hindu weddings), she was every bit the true traditional Indian bride in a stunning jewel encrusted traditional ghaagra choli (traditional dress) and mehendi/henna filled hands. The henna pattern for her palms was custom designed just for her according to her taste, and the henna for the feet was improvised using the palms as inspiration & guide. The back of the hands had to be slightly rushed, so the design had more of an arabic and contemporary look.

Take a look at a few of the photos below!:)
